On 12th June 2017 evening, Delhi University had started DU MA English Admissions 2017 online registration. The last date to application is 22nd June 2017.

After fumbling and delaying over the dates and announcements, DU finally have announced online registrations. Moreover, earlier there was a news that DU is going to conduct all entrance exam online. But later DU rolled back to pen and paper mode.

In this notification, we have included all important details related to online registration, eligibility, syllabus and preparation strategy. We have also included DU MA English entrance previous year question paper, which no other website or institute has.

DU MA English Admission 2017 Important Dates

DU MA English online registration start date: 12th June 2017

Last date to register: 22nd June 2017

DU MA English Entrance Test 2017: 4th July 2017 from 8 am to 10 am

Result dates: 7th to 12th July 2017

Group Discussion and Personal Interviews (if any): 12th to 14th July 2017

First Admission List Announcement: 16th July 2017

Admission Fee Deposit Date: 18th July 2017

Commencement of Classes: 20th July 2017

This time DU had given only 10 days to register. Last year students had almost a month to apply.

Eligibility Criteria of DU MA English Entrance Test and Direct Admission

There are two ways you can get admission into DU MA English programme. The first is MA English entrance test and the second one is direct admission. In both cases, MA English entrance test is mandatory.

You have to meet following eligibility criteria in order to apply for DU MA English entrance test 2017.

  • Minimum 50 percent in Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University
  • Minimum 45 percent in BA Honors degree from a recognized University

For the direct DU MA English admission, you need to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Minimum 60 percent in BA English Honors from Delhi University

DU MA English Entrance Test Syllabus 2017

Last year Delhi University changed the pattern of MA English entrance to complete objective based. Therefore, the question paper difficulty level has gone up.

We have provided the brief overview of the MA English entrance test syllabus below:

Total marks: 100 marks

Pattern: Multiple choice questions/objective type

Mode: offline/pen or pencil

Total questions: 100 (approx.)

Total duration: 90 minutes


  • English Comprehension and Critical Passage Readings
  • History of English from Chaucer to Contemporary age
  • Literary Theory and Criticism

    • By ‘Supplementary’ you mean that you have back in your 1st paper. Then no, you cannot apply as you don’t qualify for minimum eligibility criteria. Which is – 50 percent minimum required in bachelor’s degree to apply for MA English Entrance exam.

    • Yes, it won’t make any difference because you need graduation from a recognized university to be eligible for MA English Entrance at DU. However, you will need to meet minimum marks criteria as per your category.
