Difference between MEG and MEGOL

There is lot of confusion surrounding Masters of English (MEG) and Masters of English (Online) (MEGOL) at IGNOU. 

Both are Masters of English – PG degree programs but their difference lies in their mode and course structure. 

MEG:

Masters of English (MEG) is the open distance learning programme at IGNOU. 

Basically, you will study this program using Hard Copy of Study Materials (optional).

In this variant, you’ve MEG 05 (Literary Criticism and Theory) as compulsory subject in 1st year.

In the 2nd year, you have to choose between MEG 05 (Aspects of Language) or MEG 15 (Comparative Literature) as your compulsory subject. 

Both in the 1st and 2nd year you will have to choose three optional subjects from the available 6 modules apart from compulsory subject. 

MEGOL:

On the other hand, Masters of English Online (MEGOL) is conducted in online mode only. 

In this variant you will receive access to web-based study material, video lectures and live counseling. 

In the first year of this variant, you will have MEG 01 (British Poetry), MEG 02 (British Drama), MEG 03 (British Novel) and MEG 05 (Literary Criticism and Theory) as compulsory subjects. 

In the second year, you will have MEG 06 (American Literature), MEG 07 (Indian English Literature), MEG 14 (Contemporary Indian Literature in English Translation), and MEG 15 (Comparative Literature: Theory and Practice) as compulsory subjects. 

In short, you will not have options to choose your MEGs here.
